4. Chairman's Report – Cllr G Daniels
The Chairman welcomed everyone to this the Seventh Annual Parish Meeting.
He outlined the many matters dealt with by the Council during the past year. These included the future management of the pond, the effort to introduce a speed limit on Mardleybury Road between White Horse Lane and Datchworth, the effort to obtain a pedestrian crossing of London Road near Lisles, the successful entry into the Village of the Year Competition, the obtaining of a grant towards the printing and distribution of a Parish Map of Footpaths in conjunction with Datchworth Parish Council and the obtaining of a grant for a computer and internet access in the Village Hall. A good start had been made on the preparation of a Woolmer Green Parish Plan. Major maintenance had also been carried out at the Hall and the Ball Skills Court.
He introduced the Parish Councillors present and outlined each oneÕs sphere of interest
Finally, the Chairman expressed the CouncilÕs thanks to its employees.
5. Questions on this Report. Several questions from members of the public were dealt with by the Chairman and other Councillors
6. Report from St Michael's Church – Cllr Jane Thom
In the absence of Sue Keach, Cllr Jane Thom gave a report on the ChurchÕs activities during the past year and stated that a working party was to be formed to improve the maintenance of the cemetery
7. Report from St Michael's School - Mary Westley
Due to an unexpected late commitment, Mary Westley was unable to attend.
8. Recycling – Mr Durk Reyner, Welwyn Hatfield Council
Mr Reyner gave an account of the District CouncilÕs policies and actions on recycling and refuse collection and answered several questions on the subject.
9. Global Warming – Mrs Lydia Somerville
Mrs Somerville spoke of the dangers of global warming and pointed out the many ways in which people could reduce their energy consumption and the consequent emission of greenhouse gases. She handed out a useful leaflet on the subject and was warmly applauded for her talk.
In closing the meeting, the Chairman thanked members of the public for their interest and Cllr Judith Watson for the refreshments. Cllr Watson stated that Cllrs Daniels, Evans and Thom were not standing for re-election in May. She thanked them very much for their past service on the Council and reminded the public that nominations were required for the resulting three vacancies.
